Breaking Through
When Isai (pictured with his younger sister) graduated Bruce-Guadalupe Community School in 8th grade, he was academically accomplished yet painfully shy.
In high school, he enrolled in UCC’s Pre-College Program. He shares, “The Pre-College Program has been one of the best experiences of my life. They would push us outside our comfort zone to try new activities that we probably would not have ever tried.” Isai participated in new activities such as the Triathlon club – despite not knowing how to swim or ride a bike! He eventually competed in triathlons and learned to use exercise as a way to improve his mental health. He also participated in a robotics class through Marquette University, sparking an interest in engineering.
Isai is not the shy kid he once was. He is currently in his sophomore year as a Mechanical Engineering student at Marquette University. He comes back to UCC three nights a week to give back to the Pre-College Program. He is a born leader and is compassionate about teaching youth the lessons he was taught when he was younger.
